congrats you're engaged!
You will have a lot of questions as you start the wedding planning process as far as venues, vendors, and... what to wear to your engagement session? Should you wear that blouse your mom got you for Christmas a few years ago, or should you wear those khaki pants you got from the thrift store? What to wear to your engagement session is more about what just what looks good to you, its a science
neutrals and muted colors
This is the best thing I can tell you to do. What do I mean by neutrals and muteds? Basically, stay away from anything bright. Bright red, orange, yellow, or any other color thats just overly bright. These colors may look great on you, but for pictures, they can cast that color onto your skin which will make your skin tones in the final images look weird and uneven. Focus on neutral colors like grey, black, tan, or something in that family. If you want a pop of color, I say choose one of the ones below. This allows you to tap into your vibrant side, while keeping color casts off your skin.
no prints, plaid, or stripes
Keep far away from these. Again, I am sure you look great in that plaid shirt your grandma got you, but I would not recommend it for pictures. Prints, plaid, and stripes can cause something called "Moire" or "Chromatic Aberration." I am 100% sure you read those words and said, "Huh?" Let me explain. Moire is a strange banding across your clothing that happens on when someone wears stripes. Not only is it very noticeable and an eye sore in pictures, it is also extremely hard to edit out. So if you want to be nice to your photographer and also get your images back quicker, keep this in mind. Chromatic Aberration is when there is a color hue surrounding the lines or circles on your clothes. Its almost like a ghosting effect. This is a little easier to edit out but it is an extra step your photographer wont have to take if they don't need to.
wear what you feel confident in
You would think this one is obvious but you would actually be surprised. A lot of people will order new clothes for their engagement session, which is totally ok, but if what you order is making you feel self conscious or you don't love it and just bought it cause it looked good on the SHEIN model, don't wear it. Your photographer is not a miracle worker and can only work with how you show up. If you are not feeling confident in what you are wearing, it will show in the final images. You will look uncomfortable, poses will look forced, faces will look weird, you will feel like you have to over compensate for little things because you just aren't feeling yourself. Do yourself and your spouse a favor, if you pick something that is making you feel that way, put it back in the closet and wear something you know you will slay. For my guys, HYGIENE! Get a haircut, lineup, brush your teeth, wear and do things that will make you feel confident as well. A connection with each other and confidence in your appearance will make for some images that belong on the cover of Vogue.
